New Build Home, Brackenfield

This is a design for a new build home in Brackenfield, Derbyshire.

The proposal is for a simple stone domestic dwelling with a rectangular footprint. A traditional Derbyshire stone will be used, irregular and rustic in appearance.

As the property will be sited near to both a contemporary new-build and an older stone farm-house,
it is deemed appropriate that the design of the house takes on the right balance of old and new.
For this reason, as in some of the images opposite, the rural feel of the stone walls and blue slate roof will be complimented with a modern approach to the windows, doors and main entrance.

The gently sloping, southerly aspect of the site offers an excellent opportunity to design a layout and to orientate the house so that it is more energy efficient with passive solar gain being easily achieved via South facing double glazing. This will be combined with the use of thermally massive materials such as a Derbyshire lime-stone internal floor to capture the suns heat during the day and warm the house during the night. The walls will be designed to allow for an optimum amount of insulation in order to achieve a U-value which exceeds that required by Building regulations.

Link extension building, Matlock, Derbyshire

Link Extension, Matlock

This proposal is for a link extension to a propery in the centre of Matlock. The existing home is stone built and has a rich history with it's previous life being not just 2 properties but also serving as a local shop.

As with many of our projects, the client for this project was looking to provide ancilary accommodation for a dependant relative - who also would need an element of independance.

The proposal links the old house with the garage which is converted into a one bedroom annex. Amendments to the garage such as bi-fold doors, skylights and an external deck provide an external venacular appearance.

The link also serves as an extened kitchen space and garden room to the main house.
